The purpose of the centre is to engage in any lawful act or activity for which a corporation may be established and operated for charitable purposes as defined and recognized by the Courts under the General Laws of Canada, for the advancement of Buddhism, serve religious purposes and Buddhist Cultural activities beneficial to the members of the centre, the Buddhist Community of Ottawa and Canada and others interested in understanding Buddhism.
Provide and conduct Buddhist religious seminars and discussions, by Buddhist priests and to hold meditation sessions for the members.
Establish and maintain land and buildings to house the Buddhist temple, as required for worship, meditation and for ‘Dhamma’ practice and other religious use.
Maintain liaison with other Buddhist temples and organizations within Montreal, Canada, United States of America and all other countries.
Organize Buddhist spiritual observances, ‘Sil’ campaigns, (Vassana) annual rainy season retreats and ‘Vesak’ Lord Buddha’s birthday celebrations.
Arrange and organize activities to celebrate the ‘Sinhala New Year’ during the month of April according to Buddhist traditions.
Arrange and organize any legal forms of fund raising events like flower basket auction, bake sale, garage sale etc., to enable the centre to maintain the Temple, the meditation Center and other activities.
Work for the advancement of Buddhism through the study of scriptural languages Pali, Sanskrit and the study of Buddhist teachings.
Arrange Buddhist education classes and teach young children to be productive, exemplary citizens and help them recognize that their responsibility is not only for material prosperity but also for the order of the universe, which ultimately rests upon them.
Arrange ‘Dhamma classes for adults to help them understand the philosophical teachings of the Buddha that provide not only a rational analysis and a systematic solution to the problems of life, but also furnish ways and means of living a rich and an abundant of amity and service where liberty is sanely tempered and controlled by laws of self discipline.
Offer “spiritual rites’, last ‘rites’ and services to critical patients in hospital and elsewhere when required and requested.
General membership in the centre shall be limited to persons eighteen (18) years of age and over, who, are single individuals, two individuals living together, family (husband and wife) with children less than eighteen (18) years, and senior citizens who are interested in furthering the objectives of the centre and shall consist of anyone whose application for admission as a member has received approval of the board of directors.
The board of directors at their discretion may designate any person making a lump sum donation of Five Thousand Dollars ($5000.00) as a Life Member of the centre.
The board of directors at their discretion may confer honorary membership to persons who have made outstanding contributions to the propagation of Buddhism.
The Venerable Kakanadure Hemalankara Thero is the Chief Incumbent of the centre.
Previously the vice principle of ‘Migadaya ratanapala pirivena’, Sri Lanka.
In charge of Buddhist religious activities of Paris Buddhist Vihara, France during 1989-1995.
Arrived in Canada in year 2000 & Received the citizenship in 2007.
